Runt
He was an outcast right from the moment he was born. Momma gave birth to a litter of 4, and he was the smallest, the weakest of the lot. He was also born with a defect that the cat community frown upon, a defect that would haunt and affect his life...
He was born with different coloured eyes... one as beautiful as the big blue sky, the other as mesmerising as the calm green sea. However, it wasn't viewed as such; it was a sign of disease, a sign of the devil's advocate... a sign of destruction.
Shunned by sibling kittens and other cats, he kept to himself.. while the other kittens frolick on the open fields, enjoying their youth, he stayed close to Momma, coughing and sneezing, plagued by chronic illnesses that afflicted his weak body. Momma did her best to bring her boy up, but nothing could be done to bring the boy up.
However, he never gave up hope. He would stare up to the sky, dreaming hopes of a happy future, a future not biased against physical defects, a world free from hurt, free from pain..
Freedom...
At the age of one, Momma decided it was time for the young ones to go free.. including him. Momma would've kept him at her side a little while more, but the rules of the community forbid her, and she had no choice but to leave him, and let him fend for himself in this cruel, evil world.
Shunned by the community because of the defect, he had to wander alone, scraping a out a living. He wasn't complaining though; he kept his hope up. His chronic illnesses made him weaker and smaller than the other more healthy cats, and he was occasionnally picked upon and bullied. His body bore scars and wounds from fights; out-numbered, out-sized, he had no chance of winning at all.
Then one day, it happened.
He didn't see it coming towards him.
He didn't hear the sound of horns flaring, warning him of its impending approach.
He didn't know.
Then there was darknes..
When he opened his eyes, he could see, he had been hit by a speeding car. His body lay limp. He could see blood coming out from his wounds.
Tears started streaming out from his eyes. Not from the pain, but from the realisation that all that he had hoped for, all hopes for an unbiased future...
all gone...
He stretched out his him paw, and reached for the clear blue sky, trying to reach, trying to touch those skies that once gave him hope...he cried out for help...
And then there was silence.
Eternal silence.
