    Ai Pi Ai Ci

2 weeks ago, during one of the morning rushes to catch the bus to my camp for reservist, i kinda dropped the W700 walkman phone's inner-ear headphones (i used it as a normal headphone, as the sound quality was pretty good... and it IS inner-ear...).. and i kinda almost wrecked it.....

The thing was working fine, but it was slowly coming apart, and the time has come to source for a new one...

Being the typical Singaporean, i wanted good but cheap ones... aka the "Ai Pi Ai Ci" attitude...

    but none came close...

Today during lunch we dropped to SLS, where Stitchy was sourcing for a casing for a laptop harddisk for her bro (heh, like me, another "Ai Pi Ai Ci" person!).

I went to Gamer's Hub (same place i got my PSP) and saw the headphones i was eyeing (but too ex), they were selling 7 bucks less than everywhere else... and i ended up buying it (how to resist... someone was saying "You should 宠一宠自己“... damn those magic words.

So now, here i am, 42 bucks poorer.

With a new Philips inner-ear headphones!

    Savior from the Open-Source world...

While i was working on the macro (please see my previous complaint post), somehow, i managed to corrupt the file sooo bad, that i couldn't even open it (even on my Dad's laptop's Office 2003, when i tried to use the recovery options, it gave me this message: "Your file's damage was so extensive the Microsoft Excel cannot repair it."

    DIE lor~

I spent the next 2 hours searching the net for solutions, downloaded some demo software which "supposedly" can recover files
(but i need to buy that software to unlock the feature), opened-closed-reopened, anything.

    To no avail....

I was preparing for the fact that today i would be bring a defect file back to office, when a light shone down on me....

If Microsoft Excel can't open... maybe OpenOffice could??

With this little ray of hope, i downloaded and installed OpenOffce (All Hail Open-Source! Free stuff for everyone!). Opened
Calc (OpenOffice's version of Excel), and lo and behold! It opened! But alas, it doesn't seem to be able to restore the macro (the data means nothing to me, its the macro codes that's the whole BEING of the file). Nothing i tried seem to be working..

    Alas....dooom is on me.

Then, a little angelic voice from the back of my sleep-deprived mine called out:

"Why don't you just re-save it as XLS format?"

    Which i did..

    And lo and behold!

    THE MACRO's BACK!!!!

With what's left in me i did a few tests, just to make sure.... and yes! I got them back!

Now, today, in the office, with my sleep-deprived brain and my over-sized swollen eyes, I give thanks to thee, o' Open Office!

ALL HAIL OPEN OFFICE! ALL HAIL SUN MICROSYSTEMS!

What do they take me for?

Do i not need my weekends?

FARK YOUR CLIENT! I don't give a damn! I was only told about the macro programming on Friday, and you expect me to cough it out on Monday?

    GO TO FARKING HELL!

Nevermind, i will give you "something" on Monday.

Something no less than a piece of simple crap.

    Ok?

What can i say about the event...?

Its just normal.. not many people turned up, but it was nice to know the few that came, and the few i talked to....

Didn't expect much, so there's no goals, nothing.. just a simple meet, and know more people. :)

    One Step forward....

During my 2 weeks in camp, i had a chat with one of my ex-instructors from Airforce School, who was posted to my unit.

An idle chit chat, talked about life, then the topic turned to one of my most feared: relationships. He told me alot of stuff, but basically, he told me just break out and go make more friends, no need to be too serious, no need to rush. Don't be afraid.

Finally i've decided. I need to move forward.

Remember I signed up for SDU? One of its subsidaries has been sending emails about events. Finally, i took a closer look... and signed up for 2 of them:

Event 1: Coffee & Tea Talk (Wed, 24 Oct) (** Guys to be at least 1.70m **)
An activity with a twist! Yes, as the title implies, this is an activity that guys have to be 1.70m and above. Are you one of them? So why not join us for a chill out session & interacting with more friends?
Venue: Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
    Time: 7:30pm

Event 5: Who's My Date Tonight? (Fri, 26 Oct)
    * Age Range: 22 - 27 for ladies. 25 - 30 for guys
    * Guys must not have participated in the same activity on 19 Oct, Fri.
    * Presentable-looking.
    * Sincere. Pleasant personality. With a decent job. Communicates well.
    * Singaporeans & Singapore PR only
    * To register, please reply with your: Name, Gender, Contact no., Email address, & NRIC (for authentication purpose. Strictly Confidential)
Venue: Disclosed only to confirmed participants.
    Group size: 4 - 8pax
    Time: 7:30pm

It's time, i need to move. I cannot remain at the back of the pack anymore.

    But damn am i nervous....

    Salute! Female Police!

Had lunch just now @ Hougang Mall with Mom and sis+bf, when we were leaving we witnessed a a drama...

From what we percieve, this woman was caught shoplifting, and the police were escorting her out of the place, back to the station. The woman was trying to make trouble, making alot of noises. The policewoman was damn fierce! Strict, unwavering, imposing!

    I'm damn impressed...

i salute to thee, o' great policewoman!

    MLM

My friend tried to get me into this MLM Thingy, brought me to their office in Toa Payoh for a walk around.

Bright offices, with big LCD screens, smart-dressed people (reportedly earning 6-digit salaries each month).

Told that must pay to join, and depending on what level of membership (and of course, how much is the membership fees), how much is your "rewards".

Bah, it sounds very good. Too good. There must be a fine print somewhere. Anyway i'm not cut out for this type of thing.

    Shitty

Yesterday was my first try at ASA, ended up my supervisor Jovina did most of co-ordination... so much to look out for! It really doesn't make sense for a non-current person to be in such position...

Oh well.. no choice, arrowed...see how today, tomolo no flying, so shouldn't have a problem, ground programs from the squadrons.

Haiz... every morning have to wake up so early... its draining me up... later must go buy Red Bull :)
